Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how BalkanTruck (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the BalkanTruck mobile application (the “App”) and related services (together, the “Service”).

1. Who we are

BalkanTruck is operated by BalkanTruck, based in Serbia. If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at contact@balkantruck.rs.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

• Account information: email address, display name, password (stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text), and optionally a profile avatar image.
• Content you create: feed posts, forum topics/posts/comments, poll responses, public chat messages, direct messages to other users, and any images or files you attach to the above.
• Traffic/road reports: if you submit a report (e.g. a border-crossing update, a police/radar location, or a road-condition update), we store the report type, title, body text, an optional attached image, and — only if you choose to include it — the geographic coordinates and/or a location name for that specific report.
• Support requests: anything you submit through in-app support/contact forms.

2.2 Information collected automatically

• Device location (on-device only, not stored): if you grant location permission, the App uses your device’s current position to center the map view (e.g. the traffic map) and show what’s nearby. This is used live on your device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers unless you separately choose to attach a location to a traffic report you submit (see 2.1).
• Log and technical data: standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps, error logs) generated as part of operating the API, retained for security and debugging purposes.

2.3 Information from third parties

We do not currently obtain information about you from third-party data brokers or social login providers.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

• Create and maintain your account, and authenticate you (including sending an email verification link via our email provider, see Section 5)
• Operate the feed, forum, chat, direct messages, traffic reports, and parking features
• Display your display name, avatar, and content to other users as part of the normal operation of a social/community app
• Respond to support requests
• Maintain the security and integrity of the Service (e.g. detecting abuse, spam, or violations of our Terms of Use)
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Sharing your information

We share information only in these circumstances:

• With other users, by design: your display name, avatar, and any content you post to the feed, forum, or public chat channels are visible to other users of the Service, since that’s the point of those features. Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient (and, if necessary, to us for moderation/legal purposes).
• Service providers (processors): we use third-party infrastructure providers to operate the Service, currently including:
  • An email delivery provider (Resend) to send account verification emails
  • An object storage provider (S3-compatible storage) to host images/attachments you upload
  • A cloud hosting provider to run our database and backend servers

  These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

• Legal reasons: if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BalkanTruck, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers: if BalkanTruck is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we’ll notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Advertising

The App does not currently show advertising. If we introduce advertising in the future (e.g. Google AdMob), we will update this policy before doing so to describe what advertising identifiers or usage data are collected, and — where required by law (e.g. in the EU/EEA/UK) — request your consent first.

7. Push notifications

The App does not currently send push notifications. If we introduce them, we will request your permission on-device before doing so, and you will be able to disable them at any time in your device settings.

8. Data retention

We retain account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Section 10), your account data is deleted or anonymized immediately, other than in backups, which are purged on a rolling basis within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it longer for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Server logs are retained for a limited period, typically no more than 30 days.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@balkantruck.rs. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Deleting your account

You can delete your account directly in the App: go to Settings → Account → Delete account, confirm your password, and confirm again when prompted. Deletion takes effect immediately — your session is ended right away and you can no longer log in with that account.

When you delete your account, we remove your email, username, display name, avatar, and bio, and replace your password with one that cannot be used to log in. Content you posted (feed posts, forum posts and comments, chat messages) is not deleted, since removing it would also remove other users’ replies and conversations — it remains visible but is no longer linked to your identity. If you’d like that content removed as well, contact us at contact@balkantruck.rs.

If you’re unable to access the App, you can also request deletion by emailing contact@balkantruck.rs from your registered email address.

11. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at contact@balkantruck.rs and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information (e.g. password hashing, encrypted connections). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. International data transfers

Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via the App or by email before the changes take effect. The “Effective date” above reflects the latest revision.
